SHANGRI-LA SPRINGS

Some sessions stay with you long after you pack up your camera. This couples engagement session at Shangri-La Springs in Bonita Springs, Florida was absolutely one of them.

As a Fort Myers wedding photographer, I have the joy of working with couples across Southwest Florida — from the white-sand beaches of Naples to the charming streets of downtown Fort Myers. But when Abby and Drew chose Shangri-La Springs as the backdrop for their engagement portraits, I knew we were in for something truly special. This property is unlike anywhere else in the area, and these two brought a love and ease to the session that made every frame feel effortless. Scroll down for a peek at their gallery, and keep reading to find out why I think this hidden gem in Bonita Springs, Florida is one of the best wedding venue and locations for your engagement sessions! This bonita springs wedding venue deserves a permanent spot on every Southwest Florida couple’s radar.

Why We Chose Shangri-La Springs for Their Engagement Session

When couples ask me where to shoot their engagement session in Southwest Florida, Shangri-La Springs is always near the top of my list. As a Shangri-La wedding photographer, I have experienced this property in multiple seasons and lighting conditions, and it delivers every single time.
Here is what makes it so exceptional as an engagement and wedding photography location:

The Light

Shangri-La Springs has some of the most stunning natural light of any venue I have shot at in all of Florida. The towering Mysore fig tree in the center of the property filters the afternoon sun into soft, golden pools that fall across the cobblestones and gardens in the most romantic ways. During golden hour, the entire property glows. For engagement sessions, I always try to time our last hour of shooting with the light coming through those trees — and the results never disappoint.

The Variety of Backdrops

One of the things that sets this Bonita Springs wedding venue apart from so many others is the sheer variety of settings available within a single property. In one session, you can move through the rustic charm of the cobblestone courtyard, the elegance of the historic mermaid fountain, the lush tropical landscaping, the serene dock with its mineral spring, and the massive Mysore tree canopy which is beautiful ceremony back drop! Each area within this historic landmark resort is drop dead gorgeous and tells a completely different visual story, which means your gallery feels layered, rich, and full of dimension — not repetitive! For Abby and Drew, we moved through several of these settings throughout the session, and the variety in their gallery is one of my favorite things about it.

The Atmosphere

There is a magical presence to Shangri-La Springs that makes couples feel completely at ease. The property has a sense of privacy and tranquility that melts away any pre-session nerves almost immediately. The cobblestone paths, the birdsong, the soft sound of fountains — it creates an environment where couples stop performing and simply start being themselves. And that is when the best photographs happen.

For any couple considering this as a Shangri-La wedding venue or engagement session location, I genuinely cannot recommend it highly enough. It is, in my opinion, one of the most photogenic and romantic properties in all of Southwest Florida.

A Peek at Abby & Drew’s Shangri-La Springs Engagement Session

We started the session in the late afternoon, arriving just as the property started to catch the warm, slanted light of early afternoon. We began near the entrance, where the tropical foliage provided a lush, vibrant backdrop for some relaxed, candid portraits of the two of them simply walking and talking together.

From there, we made our way through the cobblestone courtyard — one of my absolute favorite spots on the property. The overhead marketplace lighting, the textured stone pathways, and the surrounding greenery create a scene that feels like it belongs in a European garden. Abby and Drew were completely in their element here.

We finished the session at the iconic Mysore fig tree just as the golden hour light reached its peak. The tree’s sprawling canopy, draped in soft light and surrounded by lush tropical growth, made for some of the most breathtaking portraits of the entire session. These are the kind of images that remind me, every single time, why I love being a Florida wedding photographer.
